Fabrication Layout, Measurement, and Production Fit-Up

Module 6 — Fabrication Layout, Measurement, and Production Fit-Up

This module develops vocational fabrication skills that support accurate welding work: reading approved drawings, measuring and marking, preparing joints, controlling fit-up, using fixtures, planning sequence and documenting material identity. It focuses on disciplined workshop practice and supervised skill development.

Scope: NWUCert is professional/vocational education. This module does not confer a government licence, coded-welder qualification, welding-inspection authority, engineering design authority, procedure-qualification authority or any regulated authorization to practice. Where a job is governed by a code, drawing, WPS, employer procedure or competent supervisor, those requirements control.

Weld Quality Awareness, Visual Checks, and Defect Prevention

This module develops practical weld-quality awareness for vocational work. Learners use approved drawings, WPS or workplace instructions to conduct pre-weld and post-weld visual checks, recognise common surface discontinuities, document nonconformance and understand when work must be referred to an authorised supervisor, inspector or other responsible person.

Scope boundary: the module teaches vocational quality awareness only. It does not confer coded-welder status, welding-inspector certification, engineering authority, government licensure or independent authority to accept regulated work.

Welding Procedure Awareness, Consumable Control, and Process Discipline

This vocational module develops disciplined use of approved welding instructions, consumables, process settings and production records. It does not qualify the learner to author, approve or waive a regulated welding procedure, nor does it confer welder qualification, inspector status, engineering authority or government licensure.

Welding Drawings, Symbols, and Fabrication Documentation

This module develops vocational competence in reading fabrication drawings, welding symbols, revision notes and production documentation. It is continuing professional/vocational education only: it does not confer government licensure, coded-welder status, inspection authority or authorization to perform regulated work. Learners must follow the approved drawing, welding procedure, employer controls and applicable project standard.

Production Planning, Safe Work Sequencing, and Capstone Fabrication

This capstone module integrates drawing review, material control, fit-up, welding procedure awareness, quality checks, production records and safe work sequencing into a reviewable fabrication plan. NWUCert completion is professional/vocational education only and does not grant government licensure, coded-welder status, specialist registration, inspection authority or permission to perform regulated work.
